1•15•10 ★ Bill Viola - The Quintet of the Astonished ★ Erika Wanenmacher "The project that I am working on started with some glass negatives that I found at "The Black Hole", a surplus store in Los Alamos, New Mexico that sells cast-offs from the national laboratory. They are photographic miscroscope images, ranging in magnification from 1000 to 60,000x. I recognized them as tissue, it turns out they are mostly mammalian collegen, connective tissue. What I did KNOW is that they have the worst resonance of anything I had ever touched. They just felt "Bad". I let them sit in my studio for a couple years and sort of "offgas". They started to tell me stories." Women service and facilitate the constant flow of family life while whole segments of their particular experiences and chapters of condition are forgotten and blur with time. Hopefully my paintings depict an honest assessment of the experiences of one particular wife, mother, and artist. In adopting the shallow and graphic space of advertising, I hope to create personal billboards recording one woman's life using paint and canvas." HER WORK ★ Cormac McCarthy interview WSJ WSJ: How does that ticking clock affect your work? Does it make you want to write more shorter pieces, or to cap things with a large, all-encompassing work? CM: I'm not interested in writing short stories. Anything that doesn't take years of your life and drive you to suicide hardly seems worth doing. ★ Chris Burden's conceptual performance from the early 1970s. Shot on Super-8, 16mm film, and half-inch video. Guided by the artist's comments on both the works and the documentative process. ★ Robert Longo ![]() ★ Joseph Beuys Joseph Beuys- I like america and america likes me from zazie on Vimeo. ★ Spalding Gray The Sound Of Art • Pere Ubu - Birdies • Fred Frith - Mondays • David Byrne & Brian Eno - America Is Waiting |
